PEMF for Multiple Sclerosis – The Protocol

There are a number of interesting studies that deal with the use of TENS and PEMF for Multiple Sclerosis patients. These studies deal with the effects of EMF therapy as well as TENS and tDCS. The parameters of these studies are not dissimilar to the outputs of the Rife Model MA device. Since the underlying cause of multiple sclerosis is not yet known, therapies aimed at improving the symptoms are currently the best indication of how to approach therapy in cases of MS. To read more about PEMF and TENS for Multiple Sclerosis, click here.

PEMF for Multiple Sclerosis

TENS and PEMF for Multiple sclerosis studies on MS include:

TENS therapy is even listed as one of the accepted therapies by the MSTrust in the UK.

The following protocol takes into account some of the studies on Multiple Sclerosis and is based on practical usage by practitioners using the Model MA for multiple sclerosis. The protocol is merely an idea of what programs could be beneficial for this condition.

Please consider using the suggesting programs and creating your own protocol that suits your patients or your own lifestyle needs. Some programs may provide more relief than others. Please feel free to adjust the protocol for these circumstances.

PEMF for Osteoarthritis – Protocol for the MA200

PEMF for Osteoarthritis - Rife MA200 Protocol

Arthritis and osteoarthritis requires a long term treatment protocol to reduce or slow the degeneration associated with this type of condition. It also requires daily supplementation or diet that provides the nutrients required to support health joint and bone growth. Some of these nutrients include calcium, magnesium, vitamin D and collagen or gelatin as a collagen source. It is important to speak to your practitioner for support on which supplements are best for your situation. PEMF for osteoarthritis can be a valuable adjunctive therapy program to help to reduce inflammation and pain.

PEMF therapy for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

An interesting study on PEMF therapy for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome was published recently in the Journal of Advanced Research. The double-blind trial compared the efficacy of pulsed ultrasound with pulsed electromagnetic therapy for the treatment of postnatal carpal tunnel syndrome and found that PEMF improved grip strength, reduced pain and could be an effective therapy for patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The study included 40 patients diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome.

The study ran for four weeks during which time patients were given exercises to help to improve the condition and groups of patients received either pulsed ultrasound therapy or PEMF therapy three times a week for four weeks. The patients received PEMF therapy at 50Hz for 30 minutes per session. 50Hz on the Rife Model MA and UA devices is frequency number 297 and there is a Carpal Tunnel Syndrome program on both the Rife Model MA and UA.

PEMF therapy for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Research - Outcome of the Study

The study measured pain levels, sensory and motor distal latencies, hand grip strength and conduction velocities of the median nerve. After therapy, the groups who received therapy showed significant improvement in all of the areas measured. There was also a difference between the two groups, with the group who received PEMF therapy showing more improvement than the group who received pulsed ultrasound therapy.

Since the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome include pain, inflammation and discomfort, it should not really be surprising to show improvements in these areas since both TENS and PEMF have been shown to help reduce pain, increase circulation and decrease inflammation.

It is also important to note that no adverse side effects were reported for either PEMF or ultrasound therapy. Unlike pain medication and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, the use of PEMF therapy for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome could offer a drugless alternative to the current pharmaceutical treatments available.

Rife Health Challenge Autumn

By far the greatest advantage of owing your own Rife Model MA200 is the fact that programs on the device can be used prophylactically to help to support the body in preventing conditions rather than waiting for them to occur.

Autumn officially began on the 20th of March, and as the seasons change, a lot of us often experience an increase in conditions like colds and flu. For those who suffer from these seasonal conditions, now is the time to add programs like cold and flu, bronchitis and sinusitis to your weekly Rife protocol, using them throughout April and May to help your body to fight off these conditions before they start.

Rife Health Challenge

There are several programs on your Model MA200 that can help to prepare the body to fight off seasonal conditions. These programs include the Sleep or Schumann program, the cold and flu program, the sinusitis program and of course immune system stimulation.

Unlike when you are treating a condition, using the rife prophylactically does not require you to use your machine daily, but rather once or twice a week. So, to create a program for autumn, you can easily add one or two programs each weekend or fit them into your current Rife protocol.

Here are some of benefits of adding these conditions to your autumn rife protocol.

Sleep

Sleep is a vital part of treating any condition because the immune system and the body’s healing mechanisms are most active at night. That is why we suggest you use the Sleep or Schumann programs on a regular basis or every night with the Maxi MAT which allows you to treat yourself while you are sleeping. To boost the immune system add sleep to your regular protocol and especially as we move into autumn.

Cold and Flu

Depending on you, adding cold and flu to your weekly protocol can help to reduce the chances that you will develop flu this winter. Killing off pathogens and keeping them under control is the key to using your Rife machine prophylactically. If you suffer from other winter conditions then replace cold and flu with the relevant condition like bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis etc.

Sinusitis

Sinusitis and a post nasal drip can often be the catalyst for developing other related conditions during seasonal changes. If you suffer from a post-nasal drip or sinusitis then adding this program to your Autumn protocol can help to reduce the likelihood of developing bronchitis or other chest related infections in the coming months

Immune System Stimulation

Finally, immune system stimulation is a must to help to keep your immune system in the position to fight off colds and flu. Adding immune system stimulation to your autumn protocol and even better to your monthly general rife protocol is a great way to keep your body in top fighting condition.

Autumn Rife Protocol

Over the next five weeks you could use the following protocol, or design your own around your particular needs:

Sleep program – daily or at least 3 times a week to support the natural immune system

Cold and Flu – Run once a week

Sinusitis – Run twice a week

Immune System Stimulation – 3 times a week

Here is an example protocol to follow until winter starts. The purple section is overnight treatment, yellow is daily treatment. Feel free to use this protocol to create your own or adjust it as necessary depending on your lifestyle and requirements.

TENS for Eyes

TENS for Eyes – Macular Degeneration

A new study on the effect of TENS for eyes in the form of micro-current stimulation has been published in the Journal of Clinical Ophthalmology in December 2015. TENS therapy for inflammation is starting to be accepted by mainstream medicine. TENS therapy is also being recognized for its benefits for circulation. TENS and PEMF therapy also offer other benefits like the promotion and support of wound healing and tissue regeneration. This study examines the effects of micro-current stimulation on age-related macular degeneration(AMD). Using plates placed over the eyes and applying micro-currents at various specific frequencies the study was aimed at working out if this form of therapy has any effect on dry and wet AMD.

TENS for Eyes

TENS for Eyes – Causes of Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Although the precise causes of AMD have yet to be identified, poor circulation or a decrease in circulation has been identified as a possible factor in the development of, and the progression of, age-related macular degeneration or AMD. Increasing the circulation can therefore be beneficial for those patients suffering from the condition.

Another factor that has been clearly identified as contributing factor to the condition is inflammation. TENS and PEMF are well known for their ability to reduce inflammation and they can therefore be valuable, non-invasive tools for supporting patients with macular degeneration.

TENS for Eyes – The study

Seventeen patients took part in this study. The age of the patients ranging between 67 and 95 years old. Each patient was selected based on their diagnosis of either wet or dry AMD by recognized eye clinics. 25 eyes in the study had been identified as being affected by dry AMD. 6 eyes in the study were identified as being affected by wet AMD.

Patients were given therapy once a week for thirty-five minutes using a specific range for frequencies. Each patient was monitored using Snellen Visual Acuity scales both before and after therapy.

The results of the study showed significant increases in visual acuity in both the dry and wet AMD eyes. With regards to the dry eye age-related macular degeneration, twice as many patients improved, and only slight deterioration was seen in the rest of the patients. Of these patients 52% of the patients improved with 26% showing decreased deterioration than would normally occur. In the wet eye group, five out of six eyes showed improvement and there was no deterioration.

The study concluded that the changes observed in the eyes were substantial and that further studies were warranted to determine the long term of effects of this type of treatment on AMD.

TENS for Eyes – A Non-invasive Approach

Since TENS and PEMF have relatively few adverse events and side-effects, and they are non-invasive therapies that one can use at home. These therapies may be worth trying for patients with AMD since there are few if any alternative therapies open to patients struggling with this condition at the moment.

TENS PEMF for Fatigue

November – Fighting Fatigue

So many of us write off fatigue and the effects of fatigue, particularly at this time of year. After all, we will be going on vacation soon, so why worry about exhaustion now? The truth is that fatigue should be a red flag in terms of your health and if you have a Rife PEMF machine, then you should consider taking advantage of the available programs to support health and to help you fight off fatigue.

November is like running the last five kilometers of a marathon. The finish line is in sight; Christmas vacation is around the corner; you deserve a medal for your efforts throughout the year; and yet, after burning both ends of the candle for the past nine months, the finish line almost seems out of reach. That is why the November Rife Health Challenge is going to focus on fatigue and how you can use your Rife PEMF device to fight the effects of fatigue.

We urge you not to write off the fact that you are feeling fatigued. Although mainstream medicine sees fatigue as a symptom of a disease, the truth is that energy is one of the most direct signs of your state of health. If you have no energy, the body has no energy, and if your body has no energy then you cannot maintain a healthy state.

Start paying attention to how energetic you feel. When your energy levels are low, act. Don’t wait for the body to become ill to force you to rest. Rest, relaxation and sleep are all vital to give your body the time to heal and to allow your body to produce the energy you need to thrive.

PEMF and TENS therapy have been shown to support a healthy metabolism, to reduce fatigue and to improve overall health by supporting mechanisms like circulation and tissue oxygenation. These factors all contribute to improving your energy levels. The following programs can help you through these last few weeks before Christmas.

For the November Health Challenge commit to improving sleep and energy to fight fatigue.

  1. Run the Schumann program daily, last thing at night before bed using whole body treatment. Better still, use the Maxi MAT and run Schumann while you are sleeping. Improving the quality of sleep will go a long way to helping you reduce fatigue.
  2. Run circulation twice a week to improve overall energy levels. Circulation brings vital oxygen and nutrients to the tissues of the body. By providing these building blocks to your cells, your body will automatically have more energy.

Read our latest blog article for more information on how TENS and PEMF therapy boosts energy to reduce fatigue.

TENS PEMF for Fatigue

TENS and PEMF therapy boost energy to reduce fatigue

Fatigue is one of the first signs that your body needs help and yet most of us ignore this vital clue, with devastating health consequences. Stress and lack of sleep are currently the considered the demons of modern health and they have been recognized as the underlying cause of cancer, heart attacks, strokes, and even diabetes. Both stress and lack of sleep are characterized by fatigue. TENS and PEMF therapy boost energy to reduce fatigue, but it is vital to acknowledge and recognize that you are fatigued.

TENS and PEMF therapy boost energy to reduce fatigueThe bottom line is that nothing in the universe can exist without energy. From the smallest nuclear particles to entire solar systems, without energy systems fail and your body is one of those systems. Each cell produces energy for you, and for its own health and survival. If you are low on energy, your cells are low on energy. If your cells are low on energy they cannot function properly and your body will suffer if you do not take steps to remedy the problem.

There are of course several ways to solve your energy crisis. Diet, sleep, healthy periods of rest and relaxation, all give your body the chance to heal and regenerate to allow it to produce the levels of energy you need. But diet and rest are not the only elements that provide energy to the body.

Your body is an electrical system. Your cells use electrical potential to produce energy. Your muscles use electrical energy to contract and relax. Your brain uses electrical energy to transmit thoughts, to retrieve memories and to allow you to function both mentally and physically. In fact, every organ in the body relies on electrical energy to function. TENS and PEMF therapy boost energy to reduce fatigue by supplying energy directly to the cells and to the body.

TENS and PEMF therapy boost energy to reduce fatigue – The Research

Although the production of energy is an exceedingly complex subject and far beyond the scope of this article, put simply, your cells manufacture energy by creating situations that produce electricity or electrical potential. Your cells, for example, use different compounds like salt to create an electrical potential between the cell and the surrounding area.

Salt is essentially a positive sodium and a negative chloride atom. A positive charge on one side of the cell membrane and a negative charge on the other side of a membrane creates an electrical potential that produces electrical energy and this is one of the energy sources your cells use to function.

There are hundreds if not thousands of compounds involved in producing energy and by measuring the compounds that play a role in the production of energy you can see if certain types of therapies affect the energy of cells.

Research on TENS and PEMF therapy have shown that this type of therapy affects energy levels at cellular level. A study published over 25 years ago showed that electrical stimulation of muscle at 10Hz for extended periods of time increased the activity of one of certain compounds by three-fold. The enzyme that it increased is called cytochrome-c-oxidase, a compound that plays a vital role in allowing your cells to produce energy.

You may not have heard of cytochrome-c-oxidase but you have probably come across glucose and you probably also know that glucose is inextricably linked to energy production. In another study on electrical stimulation at 10Hz, researches used brain imaging to show that stimulation at 10Hz increased glucose metabolism in the brain. In other words, it increased the amount of energy the brain cells produced.

Although compounds like glucose and cytochrome-c-oxidase can indicate an increase in energy, measurement of these compounds is not the only way to determine if PEMF and TENS increase energy. People are more than capable of determining whether a certain type of therapy has increased their energy levels.

There are in fact numerous studies that show that patients had an increase in energy and a decrease in fatigue levels after PEMF or electrical therapies like TENS.

In a double-placebo controlled trial done on patients suffering from MS induced fatigue, researchers found that PEMF therapy resulted in improvements in fatigue and in improvements in the patients’ overall quality of life. TENS therapy was shown to reduce fatigue, clot formation and pain in patients with dysmenorrhea. In this study said:

“Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation alone provided good to excellent subjective pain relief in 42.4% of subjects, compared with 3.2% with placebo TENS, and significantly reduced diarrhea, menstrual flow, clot formation, and fatigue compared with placebo TENS.”

TENS and PEMF have been successfully used in MS, Fibromyalgia, dysmenorrhea and a host of other conditions. There are even studies on healthy individuals showing that TENS and PEMF therapy can improve energy levels and overall athletic performance. In fact, numerous athletes are turning to PEMF for sport training and improvement.

TENS and PEMF therapy boost energy to reduce fatigue – Simple energy

The beauty of PEMF and TENS therapy is that it provides a safe, affordable and simple way to provide the body with additional energy. It has also been shown to improve circulation and that leads to higher oxygenation of the tissues which ultimately leads to a healthier you. Practitioners also use TENS therapy for inflammation. Since inflammation, stress and lack of sleep often go hand in hand, TENS and PEMF therapy could be a valuable tool in reducing the three major risks to overall health.

TENS therapy for Inflammation

If you suffer from chronic inflammation, then TENS therapy for inflammation may offer a drug free alternative to help reduce chronic inflammation. Inflammation is your body’s way of protecting itself from damage and harm and it is therefore a vital part of the healing process. And yet, inflammation is being blamed as the underlying cause of many of the diseases we face these days, so how does the healing process go wrong? Why are so many people suffering from conditions that are caused by inflammation? What can be done to help to reduce inflammation without compromising the body’s ability to heal? The answer to many of these questions can be found in understanding why inflammation can be so detrimental.

TENS therapy for InflammationTENS Therapy for Inflammation – Conditions

Inflammation has been linked to joint pain, back pain, arthritis, osteoarthritis, auto-immune disorders, lupus, allergies, Crohns disease, atherosclerosis, cancer, heart attacks, strokes, memory loss and even premature aging.

TENS therapy for InflammationAs mentioned above however, inflammation is vital for healing, so why is the healing process damaging your body? The simple answer is that the environment we live in, the stress of modern life and the modern diet have created a situation that places your body under constant threat. Your body is therefore constantly producing inflammation to protect and heal the body.

Inflammation results is an area of the body becoming red, swollen and painful. Chronic inflammation and inflammation that affects the body internally may not exhibit any symptoms until it is too late. It is therefore vital to ensure you keep inflammation under control.

TENS therapy for Inflammation – A potential answer

The problem with inflammation and particularly chronic forms of inflammation, is that the process often becomes a vicious cycle. Inflammation helps the body to eliminate the bacteria, toxins and damaged tissue from any area but this process can actually lead to the area becoming damaged and this is how inflammation becomes the underlying cause for more inflammation.

There are two forms of inflammation – acute inflammation and chronic inflammation. Acute inflammation occurs suddenly as a result of damage or a threat – like an injury or an attack by viruses or bacteria like when you get the flu. This inflammation is resolved as soon as the body is healed or the threat is removed.

Chronic inflammation on the other hand is a constant low grade response to a constant threat to your body. This type of inflammation is dangerous because chronic inflammation damages the body leading to further inflammation. This is the type of inflammation that we need to guard against.

But how do we reduce chronic inflammation? Although it sounds simple enough to change what we eat, changing the air we breathe, the water we d
rink and elements like stress, can be impossible to change and once you suffer from chronic or low grade inflammation, it can be extremely hard to reverse the cycle.

You could use medications like NSAIDS or Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, but they come with their own set of side-effects and disadvantages which often make them unsuitable for long-term use. That is where PEMF and TENS therapy for inflammation could offer a safe alternative for the long term reduction and control of inflammation.

TENS therapy for Inflammation – The research

TENS and PEMF therapy have been available for the last three decades and the FDA have approved numerous devices for use in pain and other inflammatory conditions. Although these therapies are a fairly new addition to mainstream medicine, there are more and more studies on these technologies which are showing that both TENS and PEMF may have an important role to play in the reduction of both pain and inflammation.

TENS therapy for InflammationOne study showed that exposure to PEMF therapy` at 5.1 Hz and 7.8 Hz led to a decrease of 37% in the production of TNF-α, one of the compounds responsible for inflammation. Decreasing the compounds that promote inflammation can obviously be helpful for controlling chronic inflammation.

A study on TENS therapy for wound healing also showed that TENs therapy led to a decrease in the amount of TNF-α as well as two other compounds that are responsible for producing the inflammatory response. This study showed that TENS therapy at 2Hz shortened the wound heling process and the study concluded that the therapy did so by inhibiting the inflammation phase of the wound healing process.

Finally, in a study done on breast reduction patients, PEMF therapy reduced the amounts of IL-1 in the wound exudates of the patients. After one hour, IL-1 levels were 275% lower than the untreated group. The treated group also had a 57% decrease in average pain scores at one hour after treatment and a 300% decrease at 5 hours after treatment compared with the untreated group.

The studies mentioned are just a few of the current studies showing that TENS and PEMF therapy can have a role to play in reducing inflammation and other studies on PEMF and TENS therapy for inflammation have also shown that these therapies have very few side-effects and they are safe for long term use.

TENS therapy for Inflammation – The therapy

So what should you look for if you want to add TENS or PEMF therapy to your current inflammation protocol? The first thing you should do is consult your physician about these types of therapies to see if they are suitable to add to your current treatment protocol. You should also ensure you invest in a device which has been legally licensed as a medical device.

Some unethical device manufacturers in South Africa market devices that are not legally licensed and could be dangerous. Every device should have their South African license number displayed on the device. Do not be fooled by manufacturers who tell you they conform to international standards and therefore do not need a license. Your health is in their hands.

Finally, add TENS therapy for inflammation to your daily treatment regimen. The inflammation program on the MA200 runs for just 24 minutes a day and you can use the cylinders or body pads for the session making it a simple addition to your daily routine. Or join our monthly health challenge and get the most out of your MA200 device.

Why Half of Our Clients are Healthy

Although the Rife UA offers programs for over 700 conditions, the majority of our customers have a Rife PEMF device, not to treat a specific condition, but rather to promote and maintain their overall health.

Other than supplements, there are few drugs and medications in the world that are aimed at promoting health rather than treating disease. The truth is that medication is not suitable for such purposes. In contrast, alternative health therapies like the Rife PEMF device and others can help to support your health, thereby preventing the conditions in the body that promote disease.

Here are the top reasons why our healthy clients have the Rife PEMF:

  • To combat the effects of stress and inflammation
  • To promote and ensure healthy sleep
  • To support healthy circulation
  • To improve energy levels and increase metabolism

RifeChallengeMA2002

Stress and inflammation

We all know that stress can take a toll on our health but few people realize the underlying mechanisms that stress causes that do damage to the body. When you are stressed, the entire metabolism of your body changes. Your body goes into fight or flight mode, healing is switched off and so is the immune system, leaving you open to threat and disease. Stress is invariably accompanied by inflammation which actually damages the body. Where the inflammation occurs depends on each individual. Inflammation has been directly linked to cancer and many of the other modern diseases we face.

PEMF and Tens therapy has been used for decades to help to reduce anxiety and stress and to treat various forms of depression. Although chronic depression and anxiety are often long term conditions we all suffer from occasional bouts of stress or anxiety occasionally. Ignoring these periods can be extremely detrimental to your health.

Our healthy clients know that using the Rife PEMF during stressful periods helps them to reduce the stress and the effects of stress on the body, keeping them healthy and not only coping with what life throws at them but thriving.

Sleep

Sleep is crucial for maintaining good mental and physical health. Without sufficient quality sleep, your body cannot regenerate and your immune system cannot create the cells vital for protecting you. Stress and lack of sleep often go hand in hand and they are truly the Bonny and Clyde of ill-health.

TENS and PEMF can help you and your body get a good night’s rest by increasing sleep time and increasing sleep quality, which in turn improves quality of life. By promoting healthy sleep, you are promoting overall health.

Promoting healthy periods of sleep, particularly when you are stressed on struggling to sleep is a kay to supporting your overall health and our healthy clients all report using the sleep frequencies to support and improve their sleeping habits.

Circulation

Circulation is the key to a healthy body and a healthy life. Circulation is the process which provides your entire body with nutrients to thrive and it is the process which removes toxins from the entire system. Without healthy circulation tissues do not get the oxygen they need to survive.

Our modern, sedentary lifestyle has played a huge role in reducing circulation and causing ill-health. Exercise is the best way to help to improve circulation, but the Rife PEMF can also help to support and promote circulation, particularly for people who can’t move around a lot or who don’t necessarily have the time to do so every day.

Studies show that TENS therapy can improve blood flow by up to 35% thereby supporting healthy wound healing and circulation. These are by no means the only studies either.

Using the Rife PEMF device daily to promote healthy circulation can help to support your overall health, particularly when you are not able to get out of those all-important meetings. Our healthy clients also list circulation as a regular part of their health protocol.

Energy & Metabolism

The most profound benefit and reason why healthy people use the Rife PEMF device daily is because TENS and PEMF therapy directly supports healthy energy levels and metabolism. We tend to think of energy levels as a determination of how much we can do every day, and while that is important, we seldom think of energy levels in terms of health.

Every cell in your body produces energy for you. When the cells are low on energy, you are low on energy. When your cells don’t have enough energy your health is directly affected. This means when you feel your batteries are running low, you are actually on your way to ill-health.

TENS and PEMF have been shown to support metabolism and energy levels at cellular level. Not only can the Rife PEMF device supplement your energy levels, but it can do so at cellular level to help you achieve your maximum potential. In fact, TENS therapy is so effective at supporting energy levels that studies show TENS improves endurance, exercise and muscle strength in athletes.

Our healthy clients report that energy support is one of the programs they rely on for overall health.
